Last year our High School was selected to participate on the STEAM project. It consists of a new learning methodology which has the aim of increasing the scientific vocations.
The first STEAM project we participated in in 2nd ESO is: DISCOVERING THE MATERIALS OF THE OBJECTS. We worked on it through Maths and Natural Sciences subjects.
First of all, we made hypotheses on what we would have to measure in order to know the composition of 3 different objects and 3 different liquids.
Many ideas came up: measuring the weight, the volume, the smell, the colour, the density, the touch,.. After experimenting, we learned that some qualities of matter, like the density, are specific. That means that the density of a material is always the same. So, we calculated the density of the mysterious objects and we compared it to the bibliographic densities to guess which material it was.
After every experiment we discussed our results in pairs. Here you have some pictures in the lab and a video of a discussion.
